about

Earlier this year, I spent a week on the edge of the Rondane National Park in Norway, at a remote cabin surrounded by stillness and snow, on a self-directed residency with my good friend and fellow collaborator, Dutch ambient musician, Anne Chris Bakker. Such a beautiful and quiet place, it was the perfect backdrop to create music that immediately became anchored in the liminal landscape. The music flowed freely and sounded exactly like the vast, frozen, endless, open world outside our little improvised studio. Time quickly ceased to exist as our simple days merged - our work directly influenced by our beautiful surroundings.

Upon my return to the UK, I set to work editing the material we had created into four succinct pieces that seemed, in my mind at least, to have been lifted directly from maps of the wilderness there and bought to life. Presented here as Sollia which in Norwegian means the sunny side of the mountain. The track titles are the names of places visited during our time there - Blåtime, Sollia, Muen and Atnsjøen.

We are both thrilled and grateful that Polar Seas Recordings are able to bring this out into the world.

about

Andrew Heath Stroud, UK

Ambient, piano based, lower-case music. Quiet and intimate - it explores sounds from both acoustic and electronic sources, along with processed field recordings and gathered, ‘found’ sounds. This music is not static though. It drifts. It constantly shifts and creates new maps that are full of change but listen carefully and you’ll also hear quiet, random glitches or shimmering dissonances. ... more
