Telenovela is an autobiographical soap opera created by the Manchester based artist, Lowri Evans. Lowri and I met in delightful circumstances when she was on a residency very close to my home in the South West of England. We then spent the next 18 months or so working closely together on this amazing, self-directed project of hers that covers a period of her life spent living in Brazil and the UK. Working mainly remotely but with occasional visits to Lowri’s studio in Manchester the episodical score took shape. It was unveiled at an amazing evening’s premier event at Islington Mill in Salford in September 2022 and was a huge success.

This is a collection of most of the ‘musical pieces’ that feature in the film albeit slightly re-worked so that they fit into the context of an audio only version. It has been one of the most complex projects I have undertaken to date and I’m thrilled to finally bring this to a wider audience. Much of the work is orchestral however, there is a joyous rhythmic side as well which only serves to mirror the complex narrative of the film which is constantly moving, twisting and turning.

Featuring on this soundtrack album is the fantastic title piece by the Brazilian trio, Christinas Cantam, written by Lucas F. Paiva and the wonderfully poetic ‘Is it Enough?’ by Laura Skilbeck.
