The Alchemist’s Muse

TheHowardHughesSuite This is an achingly, beautiful album, Andrew! It's seamless in its steady flow, and the moments of space you create (the notes you don't play) are just as important as the notes you do play. A study in patience and melancholy. I'm mesmerised upon each and every listen. At times, it's reminiscent of Eno's 'Music for Airports', with an occasional nod to Harold Budd, but the sonic world you've created is wholly unto itself. Music to lose yourself in and to. Sound catharsis. Incredibly inspiring!

Berkdrums Wow.., this album just flows into my heart, unreal! Stunningly beautiful... My favorite Heath-release so far! Masterpiece from start to finish in my humble opinion. The atmospheres, the musical flow/vibe, the amazing sounds, the dreamy feel, created from the heart & soul, it’s almost touchable..

Scott The usual high quality in every way. No favorite track yet - the album flows so nicely that it feels like it's a single sonic journey. lt can be restful or engaging, and that's a delicate trick for an artist to pull off...yet for every release Andrew makes it seem effortless. Maria's whispered vocal in this new version of The Garden Reveals Itself is very interesting; I feel privy to a secret and the poem is quite effective this way, with the music emphasizing its sense of wonder.

about

The Alchemist’s Muse is a process-led body of work that further explores my obsession with minimalism, texture, tone and the detritus that litters our sound field such as radio static or mechanical noises. I use clusters of piano notes and guitar drones against warm layers of electronics and treated field recordings, often manipulating them with various forms of both tape machines and software to create the finished pieces. Building on techniques involving the longer sound recordings I used in previous albums such as ‘Evenfall’ and ‘A Trace of Phosphor’, I have worked here with a more layered palette of sound.

I was also delighted to re-engage with two amazing artists, Bill Howgego adds a sublime bass clarinet to ‘The Alchemist’s Muse’ and the Romanian born poet, Maria Stadnika re-voices her work on a completely new version of ‘The Garden Reveals Itself’.

Recorded at my home in the Cotswolds, England earlier this year just as we all experienced a new silence imposed upon us all and for me, this album has emerged with a sense of calm, tranquility and slowly evolving soundscapes to balance our days.

I leave you to decide who or what are the alchemist and their muse.

about

Andrew Heath Stroud, UK

Ambient, piano based, lower-case music. Quiet and intimate - it explores sounds from both acoustic and electronic sources, along with processed field recordings and gathered, ‘found’ sounds. This music is not static though. It drifts. It constantly shifts and creates new maps that are full of change but listen carefully and you’ll also hear quiet, random glitches or shimmering dissonances. ... more
